Meet Brent
Do you want a washing machine, or clean clothes?
That question is the whole idea behind GetBrent. People do not want kit for its own sake; they want the job done. Sometimes that means hiring, sometimes buying, sometimes paying someone who does it every day. Brent's job is to get you to the right one, quickly, with as little faff as possible.

Why GetBrent exists
Finding a good local firm in the UK still means ringing round, wading through directories that list everyone and recommend no one, and guessing at prices nobody publishes. Working out whether to hire, buy or call in a professional is harder still, because every company you ask sells only one of those answers.
GetBrent puts them side by side: local hire firms, sellers and trades, what they have, what it costs where they publish it, and plain guides that start with what you are trying to achieve. Businesses list free and get enquiries straight to their inbox, with no commission taken on the work.
Brent is the face of all that: straight-talking, on your side, and more interested in the result than in selling you something.
Brent's rules
Rule 1
Start with the outcome, not the product
Nobody wants a washing machine. They want clean clothes. If you wash twice a month in a rented flat, the launderette or a service wash might beat buying a machine and paying to plumb it in. Brent starts every question with what you are actually trying to get done.
Rule 2
Hire, buy or pay someone: pick on purpose
A tile cutter for one bathroom is a hire. A drill you use every month is a buy. A boiler is a job for a Gas Safe engineer, full stop. GetBrent puts all three side by side so you choose the cheapest route to the result, not the one with the loudest advert.
Rule 3
As little faff as possible
Search, compare, contact, done. No account to read a price, no forms that go nowhere, no being passed round. If a step does not help you get the job done, it should not be there.
Rule 4
A job done properly is the cheap option
The cheapest quote that has to be redone costs twice. Brent backs the firms that do the work properly, show their prices and turn up when they say, and he says so.
Rule 5
Local businesses should win
The hire yard down the road, the man with a van, the family-run storage site. They are what keeps a town working. GetBrent lists them free, sends enquiries straight to them and never takes a commission on the work.
Rule 6
Straight answers
If a rule matters (towing weights, skip permits, licences), Brent quotes the official source and links to it. If he does not know, he says so rather than guess.
The outcome, then the options
You want the garden cleared
A skip, a grab lorry, a man and van, or a clearance firm who does the lot. Which is cheapest depends on what the rubbish is and where it can go.
Compare the optionsYou want the car moved
Hire a car transporter trailer if you can tow it legally, or pay a recovery firm if you cannot. Your licence and your car decide it, not the price of the trailer.
Hire or buy?You want a room painted
Hire the sprayer, buy the brushes, or book a decorator. The size of the room and your time are worth more than the kit.
Find a local firmYou want to take card payments
A free terminal with a flat rate, a cheap reader with a higher rate, or a full till system. The right one depends on what you take each month.
Card machines comparedFor business owners
Brent wants local businesses to thrive, not just be listed. List your business free and take enquiries straight to your inbox; and where it saves you money or time, GetBrent points you to tools that help you run the business, starting with card payments.
